Steven Awner, MD

Ophthalmologist and Eye Surgeon

“I came to WNY for my Ophthalmology training and returned after my pediatric ophthalmology fellowship to work at Children’s hospital and help teach residents and medical students at the UB Medical school. Originally from downstate NY, I didn’t expect to remain in WNY after training. The “city of good neighbors” describes the people here well. They are wonderful and Buffalo has been a great community to raise our children. Having four seasons and access to all types of different activities year-round are built in assets. Buffalo- “Keep it a secret” is a phrase I smiled about when I first heard it — so true! Let’s go, Buffalo!”

Conditions I treat

Strabismus, amblyopia, nystagmus including surgery, congenital ptosis, uveitis, cataracts, glaucoma, retinopathy of prematurity, orbital tumors including hemangioma or dermoid, genetic and inherited conditions affecting vision, neurologic conditions affecting vision and eye movements (myasthenia gravis, brain tumors, optic neuritis (multiple sclerosis), vernal and allergic conjunctivitis, complex strabismus surgeries for initial and re-operations (including Duane’s syndrome, congenital fibrosis, etc), myopia and slowing down progression and other pediatric eye disorders
