Pediatric Ophthalmology
ECVA is pleased to offer pediatric ophthalmology services for children in Western New York beginning January 1, 2021. Pediatric ophthalmologist Dr. Steven Awner has joined our team of board-certified ophthalmology specialists to provide specialized eye care for infants, children and adolescents.
Medical treatments
- Strabismus (ocular misalignment) and amblyopia (poor vision) therapy including glasses, patching and pharmacologic treatment
- Ptosis (droopy eyelid)
- Topical and or/systemic therapy for eye infections, chalazia, glaucoma, blocked tear ducts, and inflammation on the eye or in the eye
- Diagnosis of neurological disorders that affect the vision
- Diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma, tumors and rare genetic disorders that affect the eyes and vision
- Prescriptions for glasses
- Contact lens fittings for infants who have had cataract surgery
Surgical procedures
- Eye muscle surgery for strabismus in children and adults as well as Botox injections for strabismus when indicated
- Excision of periocular tumors
- Pediatric cataract extraction including use of intraocular lenses (IOLs)
- Probe and Irrigation for congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction (blocked tear duct)
- Laser retinal surgery for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP)
- Infantile and juvenile glaucoma surgery
