David Montesanti, MD
Ophthalmologist and Eye Surgeon
“In 2014, I went on a medical mission to Peru to investigate an unusually high number of cases of relative blindness in an Achuar community deep in the jungle. One particular patient was a 12-year-old girl reportedly blind since age 2. She had dense congenital cataracts in both eyes. We were able to perform cataract surgery on one eye WITHOUT anesthesia! Moments after the surgery she rose from the table and, for the first time in her life, walked over to her mother, unassisted! Lots of tears and smiles.”
