Optician
ECVA has an immediate opportunity for a full time Optician. This is a great opportunity to work with our experienced, board-certified ophthalmologists, surgeons and optometrists to deliver the highest quality eye care resulting in the best quality outcomes. Our focus is on care.
Job Requirements and Responsibilities:
- Current NYS license by the State Board of Opticians is required.
- Contact Lens Practitioner preferred.
- Responsible for conducting optical sales and dispensing of eyeglasses and contact lenses.
- Assist patients with optical purchases, including frame selection, lens choices, adjustments and repairs.
- Ability to accurately evaluate and/or fit contact lenses is preferred.
- Train the patient in the care, insertion, and removal of lenses.
- Notify patients when eyeglasses and contact lenses are ready.
- Ordering - Lens, frames, contact lens.
- Checking jobs, including bench alignment.
- Must be able to work closely with patients, including some physical contact to assist them in optical purchases, adjustments and repairs, and to evaluate and/or fit contact lenses.
- Demonstrated computer literacy is required. Experience with electronic medical records helpful.
- Knowledge of insurance plans.
- Provide technical expertise that instills patient confidence.
- Position requires excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Occasional travel to satellite offices.
- Focus is on patient care and education; not hard selling

Ophthalmic Assistant/Tech
The Ophthalmic Assistant/Tech interacts with patients using compassion, respect and professionalism. Monitors patient flow, prepares the patient for the exam, and assists the physician in patient examinations to allow for proper, professional diagnosis of patients' conditions.
Duties:
- Obtain patient medical history, chief complaint, and history of allergies and medications
- Perform accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks to include:
- Visual Acuity
- Lensometry
- Confrontational Visual Fields
- Stereo testing
- Evaluation of Motility
- Pupillary Function Tests
- Color Plates
- Tonometry
- Performs ordered diagnostic testing which may include:
- IOL Master
- Visual Fields
- OCT
- Fundus Photography
Essential Skills and Abilities:
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Team-oriented
- Well-organized with strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated computer literacy. Prior experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
- Personable and empathetic with patient's needs and concerns
- Dependable
- Trustworthy
- Willingness to occasionally travel between ECVA locations
Education and Experience:
- One-year experience working with patients in a medical office required; ophthalmology and/or optometry preferred
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant, Certified Ophthalmic Scribe, or Certified Optometric Assistant, preferred
- Certified Medical Assistant or related Associates degree helpful
- High school diploma or equivalent required
